Terence A. Ablett Dip SM, FIIRSM, Tec IOSH

Terence has a broad experience of workplaces, having joined ICI Films Division as a machine operator, following employment as an apprentice and tradesman in the construction industry and later, employment in the printing industry. He eventually became a manager within ICI, and moved to their pharmaceutical plant in Cheshire where, as a production manager, he changed direction and became a Safety, Health & Environmental Adviser, a position he held for almost 7 years, until leaving to set up his own consultancy in 1994.

Since this point he has been involved with many organisations which has included being called in by some who had failed to comply with legislation and had Prohibition / Improvement Notices issued against them by the enforcement agencies, situations that were resolved by initial emergency measures, backed up by the introduction of robust safety management systems, (SMSs), upon which the management of Health & Safety then moved forward.

A few other areas where assistance has been provided have been the introduction of, and training in, systems for Permits-to-Work, Near Miss Reporting, Health and Safety Auditing / Monitoring etc, also for setting up Safety Committees and training Safety Representatives.

Terence has been, and continues to be, involved with many major construction sites, including those around Manchester such as The Trafford Centre, Marks & Spencer, Triangle, Lowry Gallery, Printworks, The Edge, Manchester International Convention Centre, Media City. In addition to other major construction sites in Leeds, Liverpool, (Liverpool Arena & Convention Centre, Beetham Tower and Novotel ), also in Birmingham, (e.g. BNH JV Queen Elizabeth Hospital), and work in various other parts of the UK.

He is a Fellow member of IIRSM, and is a member of the Occupational Safety & Health Consultants Register, OSHCR, introduced to assist the choice of those organisations who wish to employ a consultant to support Health & Safety in their workplaces.
